LR 283(Sen. Flood) will be considered by the  Unicameral's Executive Board at a public hearing Thursday. (Members of the Executive
Committee are listed below the Resolution).

LR283 Flood Create the Developmental Disabilities Special Investigative Committee of the Legislature.

We are asking members of The Arc to attend this hearing. If you cannot attend the hearing, please do email the members of the
Committee (listed below) to voice your opinion. It is very important that people do attend the hearing.

LR 283 would create a Special Investigative Committee of the Legislature which would have the power to issue subpoenas for
information to assist the Committee.

LR 283 would set up the following areas that the Committee must review and report by December 31, 2008

• the quality of care and related staffing issues at BSDC
• the placement and quality of care statewide for the developmentally disabled in Nebraska, including: the determination of whether
  adequate funding and capacity exists for person served in the community
• options for service provisions for current residents of BSDC at other 24 hour care facilities and
• staffing practices of 24 hour care facilities and
• the relationship of those practices to the quality of care provided to the developmentally disabled
• The Committee will also study the Department of Health and Human Services with respect to such facilities

We are pleased that the Legislature is acting, but it is critical that Nebraskans with developmental disabilities, family members and
friends attend this hearing! People with developmental disabilities and their families are experts; experts who are needed by the
Unicameral.
