As the state's largest advocacy organization for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, The Arc of Nebraska plays an integral role in developing statewide policy affecting individuals with developmental disabilities. Other disability organizations in Nebraska as well as Nebraska legislators and State agencies rely on our expertise and input to make critical decisions concerning the welfare of people with developmental disabilities.
Our governmental affairs committee acts as a conduit between our families and the State agencies that serve them to facilitate communication regarding issues that are impacting individuals on a daily basis. The Arc of Nebraska works collaboratively with the Legislature and the Administration to ensure that the well-being of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities is a priority both legislatively and in each fiscal budget.
The Arc of Nebraska's governmental affairs committee works on a variety of issues, including: Waiting List reductions; inclusive educational systems; living and housing supports; quality and accessible medical care & Medicaid managed care; prevention issues; early intervention services; transportation; victimization; social security laws; civil rights; accessibility and employment. Our goal is two-fold: to create public awareness in Nebraska's communities while keeping the concerns of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families in the legislative forefront.
