The Arc of Nebraska contracts with Nebraska Advocacy Services, Inc. to provide grassroots advocacy for voting access among Nebraskans with disabilities. This partnership allows The Arc and other organizations to partner with one another to ensure that all Nebraskans with disabilities are able to exercise their right to vote and to participate in the political process. The Arc of Nebraska works in this effort to facilitate an active coalition of individuals and organizations known as the Nebraska Disability Vote Project.
Other activities include:
· Community education about voting rights,
· Voter registration drives across Nebraska,
· Encouraging people with disabilities to become deputized to register others to vote and to hold voter registration drives at community events,
· Creating and disseminating candidate questionnaires that focus on issues often faced by Nebraskans with disabilities,
· Training poll workers about disability etiquette, and
· Conducting workshops that will teach participants how to ask questions of candidates to form an understanding of how candidates view issues important to people with disabilities.
