feedbackIn my sons IEP he has an accommodation to ask for a snack. (self regulation technique) In august 2022 he did exactly what he has learned to so and asked for a snack while on the playground. He was denied by his classroom teacher, he then went into “flight” mode because he was refused the snack. He climbed a wall near the dumpsters, finally was escorted to the resource room, where he again asked for a snack. He was denied again, because it was “time” and he “just ate lunch” . He then climbed a half wall in the classroom. He was escorted to the ALE room, where he spent 48 minutes!!! Staff kept talking, and demanding that he “follow the rules” etc. He did push and kick staff. Once my son was able to calm himself down, he exited the ALE room, sat down and had a snack. The last line of the CIR report stated that he had a snack and returned to class to work on the activity.
I have a letter in writing that they admit to not following his IEP, and he has now been placed in a lever 3 behavioral school. When are they going to figure this out that they are not going to discipline a disability out of my child? This level 3 behavioral school is nothing short of being incarcerated at the age of 11.
I have many other CIR reports over the past 3 years, many other narratives from the school district of incidents that did not include the use of the ALE room.
LPS is treating my son how to be incarcerated, they are providing NO academics. This level 3 school believes they are going to force him to participate in academics, when LPS has not required any of that in over a year. Their “goal” is to have him stay in class, look at the white board and be there for a full day.
