Before 1975, students with IDD were often excluded entirely from public schools, with no
substantive or procedural rights to a public education. The Arc has led the way to create this change and are continuing the work to ensure that we prioritize the rights of students with disabilities. While these students have gained
valuable rights in the years since, many children with IDD have all too often been
inappropriately excluded from school or allowed to attend school for only a few hours a
day due to challenging disability-related coping behaviors. This training will help ensure family members and professionals can mitigate these exclusionary practices.
